Building Permits/Inspections
Building permits are required for all new construction as well as most additions, alterations, and renovations to existing structures. The fee is determined by the square footage of the structure to be built. Five-seven business days are required to process a building permit.
City of Suwanee staff members perform residential inspections of all trades in new homes as well as inspections of commercial buildings. Other types of inspections performed by the City are detention pond inspections, development inspections, erosion inspections, paving inspections, pool inspections, and site inspections.
Commercial buildings must also be approved by the Gwinnett County Fire Marshal, 678/518-6100. In addition, food-service businesses must contact the Gwinnett County Health Department at 770/963-5132 and Gwinnett County Department of Public Utilities at 678/376-6800.
