Big. Bold. Game-changing. Those adjectives accurately describe the initiatives that Suwanee has undertaken over the past dozen or so years – measures that have helped transform Suwanee from just one more metro Atlanta bedroom community into a distinctive, desirable place to live; a place that stands out for its park system, vibrant Town Center, and engaging sense of community.

In many ways, Suwanee has created its own good fortune through progressive visioning, innovative planning, and hard work. Over the past decade, Suwanee has won well over 100 state, regional, and national awards and recognitions for excellence in community policing, parks, events, community involvement, economic development, financial reporting, marketing, and planning.

It’s not only national publications that are finding Suwanee an excellent place to live – residents love it too! At the end of 2017, the City of Suwanee participated in its fifth National Citizen Survey, gathering resident opinions across a range of community issues. As in previous years, Suwanee residents’ ratings put the City of Suwanee at or near the top in a variety of areas as compared to other communities across the country. The overall quality of life in Suwanee was rated as excellent or good by 92 percent of residents, 95 percent rated the city as an excellent or good place to live and raise children, and 97 percent would recommend Suwanee as a place to live.

Suwanee’s business mix is diverse with a high-tech/distribution corridor; several attractive business parks; a thriving Town Center; other well-designed mixed-use areas with office and retail uses; and a redeveloping historic area.

The Economic and Community Development Department works to ensure that Suwanee remains a strong, vibrant community. Staff members are responsible for economic and community development, downtown promotion and revitalization, event coordination, website management, and media relations, as well as the city's newsletter and other community communication efforts.
