Citizens Police Academy

Offered twice annually, this eight-week, hands-on program offers participants a better understanding of the day-to-day operations of the Suwanee Police Department and the risks and experiences of being a police officer, such as crime scene processing, traffic stops, building searches, credit card fraud prevention, and narcotics identification.

Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy assist Suwanee Police with events and other police needs as they arise.


Harvest Farm Board

The Managing Board is responsible for maintenance and operation of Harvest Farm, Suwanee's community garden. These positions are appointed and an application and interview process is required.

Harvest Farm and the Orchard at White Street is maintained by volunteers, which helps to keep our operating costs down and to further engage our gardeners. Both locations hold regular volunteer work days that include planting, weeding watering, and general caretaking.


PACT Program

Police and Citizens Together (PACT) is a community-based action program that encourages residents to help maintain the quality of life within their own communities. Designed to complement Neighborhood Watch programs, a specific officer is assigned as a liaison to each of the city's neighborhoods or subdivisions to work with residents on quality-of-life issues.

Do you have the fun, spontaneous spirit of a big dog? Were you a mascot in a previous life? Suwanee is looking for volunteers to serve as Parker, the city's mascot, at events and activities around town. It's a doggone good time!

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is a five-member board appointed by the City Council. Duties include making recommendations on rezoning and special use permit requests, reviewing amendments to the zoning ordinance, participating in long-range planning efforts, and deciding on requested deviations to the city's development regulations and architectural standards.

The City Council-appointed Public Arts Commission was established to work with and encourage developers to include public art or support public art as a component of new projects, as well as create programs that bring and promote public art in Suwanee.

Scouts who wish to make a lasting impression within the City of Suwanee must first meet with the Public Works department for project approval. A limited number of projects may be accepted at any one time.


Suwanee Fest Planning Committee

This committee meets monthly to assist in planning all aspects of the annual fall festival, from the parade and entertainment to vendors and transportation.


Suwanee Police Public Safety Cadets - Unit 980

Youth ages 14-20 can explore a career in law enforcement while assisting the community through the Suwanee Police Public Safety Cadets program. Cadets meet twice monthly and help out at various city events, directing traffic, guiding parking, and helping children find their "lost" parents. They also practice traffic stops, building searches, occasionally ride along with Suwanee officers on patrol and provide child safety prints.


Suwanee Youth Leaders

The Suwanee Youth Leaders program helps students develop team-building, communication, and leadership skills through monthly programs, small-group meetings, and hands-on community service opportunities. This program is designed for high school sophomores and juniors in the North Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge, and Collins Hill clusters, including students who attend private or home-based schools.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a five-member board appointed by City Council. Its responsibilities include reviewing and issuing rulings on variances from the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance and hearing appeals on administrative decisions related to the zoning ordinance and city codes.
