Veterans Memorial

The City of Suwanee commissioned Michael Szabo to create a 20-foot sculpture to represent our nation’s veterans and to provide a place where the public can connect and reflect upon their service for the “greater good.” He interviewed several veterans before settling on his design. The result is six arcs representing the six U.S. military branches, and each branch emerges from the water reaching toward the sky, achieving something greater together than any individual could.

Funding for the Suwanee Veterans Memorial was provided by the Scott Hudgens Family Foundation in honor of WWII Veteran D. Scott Hudgens, Jr. and all the men and women who have served this country in military service.

In 2023 & 2024, over 200 patrons purchased plaques honoring their veterans; installed around the perimeter of the focal point sculpture, all situated within a serene water feature. There may be future opportunities to purchase and dedicate a plaque; please contact Kim Towne, ktowne@suwanee.com for more information.

About the artist: Michael Szabo is a native of the San Francisco Bay area and earned a degree in fine art at the Rhode Island School of Design. He works predominately in steel and bronze, and also incorporates other elements into his creations. The resulting aesthetic prompts a conversation between the works, their physical spaces, and the humans who engage with them.
