Rental Assistance
Georgia Rental Assistance Program is offering up to 12 months of rental payments for qualified applicants. Applicants must first qualify for unemployment benefits or have experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs or experienced a financial hardship linked directly or indirectly to the COVID-19 pandemic. There must also be a clear and present threat of homelessness or housing instability as a result of an inability to pay for rent and utilities.
Gwinnett County offers rental and utility assistance via Project RESET 2.0, the County's emergency rental assistance program. This program offers up to 15 months of total assistance, which may include rental and/or utility arrears (up to 12 months) and future rental and/or utility assistance. Applicants must rent in Gwinnett County; have a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income; have either qualified for unemployment benefits, or experiences a financial hardship due to COVID-19; and demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness.
Homelessness
Overcomers House Rapid Rehousing Assistance is a program designed to connect families and individuals experiencing homelessness to permanent housing through a tailored package of assistance that includes financial assistance and targeted support services.
HomeFirst Gwinnett is a system-based concept seeking to bring partner organizations together to provide place-based services that address the needs or local homeless populations.
This collaborative partnership takes a strategic, coordinated approach by better connecting services for those who need them most.
Family Promise of Gwinnett County brings existing local resources together to help homeless children and their families regain their housing and their independence, while maintaining their dignity. Family Promise provides shelter, rental assistance and utility support.
The Northeast Georgia Homeless Veterans Shelter offers shelter, food, and clothing to veterans. The organization connects veterans to permanent housing through the VA housing voucher program, which affords access to comprehensive array of support services to homeless veterans.
Community Resources
Founded in 1991, the North Gwinnett Cooperative is a ministry that provides food, clothing, financial assistance (lights, heat, water and non-narcotic prescription medication), and spiritual support to those in need in the Suwanee, Buford, and Sugar Hill communities. Additional programs provide backpacks and school supplies, holiday meals, and gifts.
The Gwinnett Cares Helpline (770-995-3339) provides resources for individuals and families, including food, housing, healthcare, childcare, education, and multicultural resources.
The goal of Resilient Gwinnett is to reduce childhood adversity by promoting resiliency and healing, as well as raise awareness about the adversities community members face and how to overcome hardships.
Gwinnett Veterans Resource Center offers programs such as home loans assistance, disability assistance, and legal counsel referral. All services are provided for veterans who have their DD 214 or discharge papers.
St. Vincent de Paul Georgia offers temporary emergency assistance to those unable to meet their basic needs such as housing, utilities, transportation, clothing, and medicine. Those seeking assistance must first call the help line at 678-892-6163 to connect with a local conference or family support center.
Founded on the belief that "people need people", the Center for Pan Asian Community Services (CPACS) is a nonprofit organization that promote self-sufficiency and equity for immigrants, refugees, and the underprivileged through comprehensive health and social services, capacity building, and advocacy. CPACS provides such as housing education for homebuyers and senior services that include housing.
United Way of Greater Atlanta's 2-1-1 Contact Center is helping address the negative impacts of the coronavirus in our communities. 2-1-1 is an emergency referral service that connects people to the resources they need to address everyday challenges of living and those that develop during times of community emergencies. Gwinnett Re-Entry Intervention Program (GRIP) strives to reduce recidivism by pairing individuals exiting incarceration with community resources to assist them in becoming self-sufficient. A partnership of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and United Way of Greater Atlanta, GRIP provides access to resources such as shelter, drug treatment, job skills training, mental health treatment, employment, and housing. GRIP’s primary objective is to provide assistance to inmates while they are incarcerated and help prepare them to make the transition from the jail to the community.
