2012 SculpTour
Reaching by Justin Wilson
A mix of forms and color, this sculpture lifts off its base and invokes a sense of "reaching" skyward. Fabricated from metal plate, Reaching has a ¼" metal band welded to all edges to create a smooth edge. The metal is painted; some surfaces are black and others are white. The use of black and white helps define the form and direct the eye. Reaching is 9'x 3' x 2' and weighs approximately 200 pounds. Purchase price is $2,000.
Justin Wilson is an undergraduate 3D art major at Georgia Southern University, where fellow SculpTour artist Marc Moulton is an instructor. Wilson, who calls metro Atlanta home, also is interested in architecture and computer-aided design. Reaching is his first large-scale work for a public environment. Wilson's work is influenced by modern linear drawings of tribal tattoo designs as well as the bold visual impact of graphic arts.
Oracle by Aaron P. Hussey
In the form of an architectural breast plate and classical bust, Oracle presents the wise elder who holds a column shape in one hand and a hornet in the other, illustrating human civilization and nature, respectively. His hands are poised in a manner that signifies that he is comparing the weight of each. His own body is a steel architectural structure. Oracle is 8' x 2' x 2' and weighs approximately 200 pounds. The sculpture is constructed of cast bronze and steel. Purchase price is $12,000.
The unique environment of New Orleans, where he grew up, shaped Aaron Hussey's relationship with art, architecture, and culture. After earning his master of fine arts degree from Louisiana State University, he remained in Baton Rouge where he now works as a full-time artist. As a sculptor focused on public art, Hussey has had many notable commissions and solo exhibitions.

Intersection by Robert L. Coon
The title of this sculpture is, to the artist, self-explanatory. The forms, planes, and lines of Intersection all traverse one another. These intersections sometimes penetrate and sometimes give the illusion of penetration, but all are inextricably connected with the other elements. The connections are both structural and visual, working together to create a three-dimensional object and visual totality. Intersection is 11'5"x 3'6"x 4'8" and weighs approximately 90 pounds. The sculpture is constructed out of fabricated and painted aluminum. Purchase price is $20,000.
Robert Coon earned his bachelor of fine arts degree in painting and drawing from the University of Georgia, where he studied with Lamar Dodd. He earned his master's degree in sculpture and printmaking at the University of Massachusetts. Coon taught at the college level for nearly 20 years before becoming part of the Vero Beach Museum of Art, where, over the years, he has worn many hats. He has an extensive record of solo and group shows as well as invitational and juried exhibitions.

Sundrop by Davis A. Whitfield IV
Davis Whitfield was inspired by recent solar activity to create his abstraction of a solar flare, Sundrop. He feels that art can and should be interpreted however the viewer pleases; recognizable shapes and forms become expressed in new contexts. For that reason, Whitfield tends to shy away from sharing his specific inspiration so as not to limit what the viewer may come up with on his/her own. Sundrop is 10'x 3'6" and weighs approximately 200 pounds. It is constructed of painted mild steel. The purchase price is $9,000.
Davis Whitfield has been an artist for as long as he can remember. He graduated in 2002 with a double major in painting and sculpture from Delta State University. For the last 10 years, Whitfield has been privileged to apprentice to renowned sculptor and painter Wayne Trapp. The partnership has allowed for his continual growth in creating large, outdoor abstract sculptures, which have been both exhibited throughout the Southeast as well as commissioned for corporate and private installations. He currently resides in Mountain City, Tennessee with his wife and new baby daughter.

Wallwalker by Jack Howard-Potter
Wallwalker is based on figurative anatomy with the body parts brought together in a new and different way that confuses the brain and elicits questions: What is it? How does it move? Is it real? The artist imagines new ways to use pieces of the human form to create interesting and compelling sculptures. This piece is 10'7" x 8'7" and weighs approximately 550 pounds. It is constructed from galvanized, powder-coated steel. The purchase price is $15,000.

Gyres by Cynthia Knapp
Gyres is part of an ongoing sculpture series of painted relief and suspended pieces. As the title implies, the circular movement suggests an abstract, current-like formation. The long, narrow, painted panels are gestured references, like three-dimensional brushstrokes, that create a positive, uplifting, and colorful interplay of forms. This sculpture weighs approximately 60 pounds and is constructed from PVC, acrylic paint, and stainless steel hardware. The purchase price is $15,000.
Atlanta resident Cynthia Knapp's career of more than 30 years includes use of various media, from works on paper and canvas to large sculptural site installations. Her work is found in private, corporate, and university collections as well as numerous galleries throughout the United States. In the mid-1990s, the City of Atlanta commissioned Knapp for a site work at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Ribbons, Atlanta can be seen there today at Gate E-7.

Swept by Marc Moulton
Sponsored by Chandler, Britt, Jay, Beck & Zwald LLC
Swept is part of a series of sculptures that expresses the cyclical process of growth and movement. Swept's design is based on the ancient Greek concept of the Golden Section, a ratio between two dimensions of a plane or two divisions of a line such that the smaller is to the larger as the larger is to the sum of the two. This sculpture is 8'x 6'x 3' and weighs approximately 1,000 pounds. It is constructed of stainless steel with polished granite spheres. The purchase price is $13,400.
Marc Moulton grew up in Utah, where the landscape around him influenced his work. Moulton's artistic focus over the past several years has been on creating artworks for public spaces. U Circle 58 by Al Garnto
The artist spent more than 10 years as a professional portrait painter, and he incorporates many classical training concepts into his sculptures, like the one used by post-Impressionist painter Paul Cezanne, who believed that everything you see in nature can be reduced down to three basic shapes, the cube, the sphere, and the cone. In U Circle 58, Garnto displays these three basic shapes as his main design principle. The sculpture is also kinetic and is put into motion by the wind's energy. The piece is 9'x 4'x 1' and weighs approximately 300 pounds. It is constructed from recycled steel, wood, and tin. The purchase price is $6,800.
